In our pursuit of modernization and development, we often neglect our unique characteristics and cultural values.
But remember we are a community and these values - passed on from generation to generation - have helped maintain the bonds within this community.
And community is what fung shui is all about.
Fung shui preaches, first and foremost, harmony within the society.
Four unique local events which have made it into Unesco's intangible cultural heritage list: the Cheung Chau Jiao Festival, the Tai O dragon boat water parade, the Tai Hang fire dragon dance and the Yu Lan ghost festival.
In honor of the season, let us look at the Tai Hang fire dragon dance, which has been performed for more than 130 years. In the 1880s, Tai Hang was a Hakka village, populated mostly with farmers and fishermen.
The story starts, as legends do, with one stormy night. Villagers killed a snake but the body inexplicably disappeared the next morning. It was seen as an omen.
Soon a plague spread in Tai Hang, taking many lives.
One night, a village elder saw Buddha in his dream and was told to perform a fire dragon dance and light fire crackers during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The sulfur in the fire crackers was said to have driven away the disease and the villagers were saved.
Since then, the Tai Hang residents would perform the fire dragon dance for three nights every Mid-Autumn Festival in memory of the incident.
Fire is one of the elements which can alter the aura as well as the inner energies of a person.
Should you be experiencing bad luck lately, do visit the fire dragon dance.
You never know - the results may surprise you!
The Tai Hang fire dragon dance will be held from 7.30pm on September 29 to October 1.
Thought for the week: Life is an echo; send out good things and they will return to you!
