美國戰爭史料,上網看得到

Ancestry.com網站24日宣布,已經把美國的九千多萬份戰爭紀錄上網,這些戰爭包括英國人1607年定居詹姆斯鎮到1975年結束的越南戰爭。該網站還列出死於戰爭的350萬美軍的姓名,包括兩千名死於伊拉克的美軍。這些紀錄是研究家族歷史的寶貴材料。

Ancestry.com執行長蘇利文(Tim Sullivan)說:「我們的家族歷史與我們國家的歷史交織一起。幾乎每個家庭都有家庭成員或親人參軍為國家服務。」

在6月6日之前,民眾可免費查閱這些紀錄;6月6日以後,網民需要繳年費155.40元,才能自由查閱該網站的美國紀錄數據庫。

這些紀錄來自國家檔案與紀錄管理局,包括3700萬張圖片、兩次世界大戰期間的徵兵登記卡、軍人年鑑、四場戰爭的戰俘紀錄、陸戰隊1893至1958年的花名冊、南北戰爭時期的撫恤金紀錄等。

美國的家譜學研究隨網際網路的發展而穩步增長。An-cestry.com、Genealogy.com、FamilySearch.com等專門搜索網站,以及雅虎(Yahoo)、谷歌(Google)等普通搜索網站,協助激發了民眾對家譜學的興趣。Ancestry.com屬於Generations Network公司。

為了把這些軍事紀錄上網,該網站已耗費三百萬元和一年時間,聘請約1500名筆跡專家花費27萬個小時以審查一些古老紀錄。但這並非美國的全部軍事紀錄。過去四百年中,一些紀錄已經丟失或銷毀,還有些紀錄現在仍屬機密。
