Famous Quotes from Laozi- The father of Dao
Many readers have sent me letters praising not my essay but my quotes !!! and I thought in this column I would focus on quotes by Laozi. Laozi is traditionally regarded as the founder of Taoism and is closely associated in this context with "original", or "primordial", Taoism. The author of Dao De Jing, dated back late 4th century BC was the most printed scripture, even more than bible. The 81 chapters of Dao De Jing was translated into many foreign languages and distributed in more than 140 countries worldwide.

The person of superior integrity does not insist upon his integrity. For this reason, he has integrity. The person of inferior integrity never loses sight of his integrity; For this reason, he lacks integrity.
If you do not value rare treasures, you will stop others from stealing.
The sage puts herself last and is first.
Close your mouth, block off your senses, blunt your sharpness, untie your knots, soften your glare, settle your dust. This is the primal identity.
When the people of the world all know beauty as beauty, there arises the recognition of ugliness. When they all know the good as good, there arises the recognition of evil. |
