In dreams of muted color
I have wandered in the night
Where the verdure fades to ochre
And the morning harkens twilight --
And in this somber dream
I have stumbled 'gainst the walls
That rise without a seam
To form endless echoed halls --
And somewhere in this misty sea
Before awakening dawns
I seek, I make, I will to be
A gateway to beyond --
Sleep my dears, now.
Sleep and dream, and know that things aren't what they seem.
The little death, she says, she sighs, is worth a thousand waking lives.
...I leaned upon the window-sill
I gazed out, chin in hand
And watched as the stars one by one
Appeared, like a sparkling, merry band
I watched the stars at play that night
As they danced around the moon
And they were sliding down her graceful curve
Where she curved like a graceful spoon....
