《Fairytales 系列之Bridge of Wings - Where He Waits》

There is a Chinese tale of the Herder Boy and the Weaver Girl, who were so in love that they neglected their duties and were thus seperated by the gods (they are stars in the sky). They are only allowed to meet one night a year, and that is when all the birds fly across to create a bridge between the Herder Boy's and the Weaver Girl's stars. This bridge of wings forms the Milky Way.

Inspired by the short story Green Serpent by Marie-Catherine D'Aulnoy, a 17th century version of the old Psyche and Eros tale. However, Eros is replaced with a man cursed with the form of a green serpent. The curse is his penance for slighting a goddess. The following is an excerpt from the part when the princess (Psyche-role) first comes to the prince/serpent's palace on his island. She was taken there by a magic ship, but midway to her destination, there was a storm. "Completely at the mercy of the winds, the vessel drifted on until it struck a rock and immediately shattered into pieces. The poor princess realized that mere philosophizing would not save her in such a catastrophe, and she grabbed onto some pieces of the wreck, so she thought, for she felt herself buoyed in the water and fortunately reached the shore, coming to rest at the foot of a towering boulder. Alas, she was horrified to discover that her savior was none other than the green serpent!"

At other times she is a warrior of fiery hair and will. And then there is her third form - Liri of the Wood. In this form she is all that is wild. She is hidden desire whether it be passion for love or passion to kill. She is a Trickster, a Scholar, a Musician, and a Lover...."

The Fairies is a fairytale by Charles Perrault. I'm currently doing illustrations for a multi-media CD of fairytales. This is the image for the title page screen. It's the typical tale of two sisters, one who is kind-hearted, and who reaps rewards for it after being tested, one who is rude and selfish, and who attempts the same tasks as the first sister, but fails utterly and receives her just rewards as well.

Yet another piece in that fairytale project.... This is actually two images in one. I've modified it for viewing on the web. The final CD version of this would be two seperate images, but I thought they complimented each other rather well.
The bottom left corner:
"You are so beautiful, so good and kind, that I can't resist bestowing a gift on you...I shall give you a gift," Continued the fairy, "that will cause every word you utter to become either a flower or a precious stone."

The top right corner: "Do you think I came here just to fetch you a drink?" the rude and arrogant girl said. "Do you think that I carried this silver bottle just to offer a drink to a fine lady? Get your own drink if you want one!"
"You're at all polite," the fairy replied without anger. "Well then, since you are not very obliging, I'll bestow a gift on you. Every word uttered from your mouth will become either a snake or a toad."

In Mongolia there are folktales of a creature called a Tuba. Tubae are up to two meters in length and look like a cross between a giant snail and a mountain goat. It is said that sightings of tubae bring good fortune.

The secret places secret corners are where the magic whispers, laughs, cavorts.
A grey cat winks and in that glowing golden orb of his eye he offers a contract - to show you what he sees -under an Autumn leaf that has melted into stains on the pavement - in the damp footprint of that lichen spotted rock - it seethes and bursts forthand hides again in the secret places secret corners.
