Cho was born in <a title="South Korea" href="/wiki/South_Korea">South 
Korea</a> and emigrated to the United States (<a title="Detroit, Michigan" href="/wiki/Detroit%2C_Michigan">Detroit, Michigan</a>) with his parents in 
September 1992.<a title="" href="#_note-2">[5]</a> According to <a title="Virginia Tech" href="/wiki/Virginia_Tech">Virginia Tech</a>, Cho was an <a title="Undergraduate" href="/wiki/Undergraduate">undergraduate</a> student in his senior year as an <a title="English language" href="/wiki/English_language">English</a> <a title="Academic major" href="/wiki/Academic_major">major</a>. He was a <a title="South Korea" href="/wiki/South_Korea">South Korean</a> national and was a 
permanent legal resident of the <a title="United States" href="/wiki/United_States">United States</a><a title="" href="#_note-3">[6]</a>. Cho had a permanent address in <a title="Centreville, Virginia" href="/wiki/Centreville%2C_Virginia">Centreville, 
Virginia</a>, an unincorporated community in western <a title="Fairfax County, Virginia" href="/wiki/Fairfax_County%2C_Virginia">Fairfax

A university spokesman described Cho as a "loner", and said university

Department, quoted a collegue, Lucinda Roy, as describing Cho as "troubled". Roy 
was concerned about an assignment that Cho turned in last year, a one act play 
he wrote entitled "Richard McBeef". The play was about a stepfather who molests 
his thirteen year old stepson. The boy talks of killing his father and they get 
into a violent arguement. The play ends with the stepfather striking the boy

website. Before the incident Cho had shown signs of violent, aberrant behavior,

later, Cho crossed the campus to continue his rampage in a classroom

the Smoking Gun, one play he wrote involved an adolescent arguing with his 
stepfather. The boy contemplates killing his stepfather, "I hate him. Must Kill 
Dick. Must Kill Dick. Must Kill Dick. Dick Must Die. Kill Dick", and at the end
